White Sox Fell Athletics, 7-2
|
The exploits of first baseman Jonathan Jenkins, who finished 5th in the NL in OPS with 1.006 in 2044, helped the Chicago White Sox defeat the Oakland Athletics, 7-2. Jenkins went 2-4 with a double and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Stacy Hootentootin, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 8 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 5-2. Chicago leads the American League Central Division by 8½ games.
Chicago used a well-timed hit by Jon Solano to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning to put the White Sox ahead, 5-2. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Chicago manager Jake Turnbull. "Our pregame was pretty good."
