Nationals Come Up Short at Toronto, 4-3
|
The Toronto Blue Jays picked up a win at Rogers Centre, knocking off the Washington Nationals, 4-3. Starting pitcher Spencer Jones played a key role in the triumph. Jones went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. His record improves to 5-2. Hoof Harted got the save, the 9th for him this season.
Had Brock Van Gilder not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Van Gilder hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Blue Jays.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Washington manager Mike Shore said following the tough loss.
The second-place Nationals have dropped 4 straight games.
