Nationals Topple Phillies, 11-4, as Baird Shines
|
The 11-4 Washington win over Philadelphia was due in large part to Tommy Baird. The Nationals center fielder was 3-5 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Washington reliever Cory Jones picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Brian Thomas took the loss. Philadelphia has now lost 4 consecutive games.
Baird contributed a big hit, a 2-run triple, for Washington in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 3-2, Baird took a fastball from Brian Thomas and stroked the triple to left. His 2nd triple of the season allowed the Nationals to leap in front, 4-3.
"I felt good up there," said Baird. "I saw the ball well."
