Padres Sneak By Giants, 6-5
|
Gerardo Amendoeira was superb against San Francisco. The left-hander, who finished 5th in the NL in strikeouts with 247 last year, had a screwball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Padres victory. The score was 6-5. The National League West Division-leading Padres have a record of 51-28.
The most important at-bat for San Diego came in the top of the ninth inning, when right fielder Jared Speck stroked a 3-1 cutter to right for a 2-run single, putting San Diego up, 6-5.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Amendoeira.
