Goof Excels, Atlanta Blows Out Miami
|
In the 13-3 Atlanta win over Miami, the impact of Floyd-William Goof was substantial. Goof, who finished 3rd in the AL in runs with 135 in 2041, went 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 4 runs and drove in 3. Nolan Stefanski, the winning pitcher, improved to 5-4. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 9 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 2. Tim Kull earned the save for Atlanta, his 1st of the year.
With Atlanta leading 10-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Goof came up to bat against Miami pitcher Matt Murray. Goof hit a forkball to right for a 3-run home run. His 14th home run of the season put the Braves on top, 13-3.
"You can never predict what'll happen," Goof said. "That's why you play the game."
Atlanta leads the National League East Division by 17½ games.
