Brewers Defeat Cardinals, 5-3
|
Milwaukee beat St. Louis on the strength of starter Travis Southern's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-3. Timóteo Metzener collected his 6th save. The Brewers are now 33-50, while the Cardinals fall to 43-40.
One of the clutch hits for Milwaukee came from one of their biggest talents. In the bottom of the seventh with two out, Lewis Thorpe Jr., who led the NL in on-base percentage with .462 in 2047, hit a run-scoring single to put the Brewers up, 4-3. For the game, the center fielder went 1-2 with 2 walks.
"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Thorpe Jr. said.
