Cardinals Prevail, 5-3, Over Washington
|
St. Louis and Washington duked it out and the Cardinals came out victorious.
The St. Louis Cardinals overcame a good performance by Washington second baseman John Sanders to knock off Washington, 5-3, at Busch Stadium. Sanders went 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 2 times. John Fisher earned the save for St. Louis, his 6th.
Making an impact for the home team was Mike Bates. In the bottom of the sixth, the former first round draft pick had a run-scoring walk. That made the score 5-3, Cardinals.
Bates called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
Today's win puts St. Louis at 44-46, while Washington falls to 41-48.
