Nationals Earn 3-2 Win Versus Marlins
|
Washington and Miami played a hard-fought contest.
Washington designated hitter Dave Vargas made his presence felt in the 3-2 Nationals triumph over the Miami Marlins. Vargas was 2-4 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. David Sly earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 4 hits in 2 innings. His record is now 2-8.
The game was all tied up in the top of the 11th, until Vargas delivered big-time for Washington, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Tim Barnett. The game-changing hit put the Nationals on top, 3-2.
"Our team showed some gumption," said Vargas. "I like it."
Washington occupies third place in the National League East Division at 49-64.
