Pirates Win at San Francisco, 5-1
|
The San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
Don Boudreau never let San Francisco get something going. The Pittsburgh right-hander commanded his fastball in pitching the Pirates to a 5-1 win. Boudreau, the winner, moves to 4-2. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 4 walks.
Pittsburgh used a well-timed hit by Nick Rooney to capture the win. The first baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Pirates ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"Enjoyed this one," Rooney told the Pittsburgh Times. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
The National League Central Division-leading Pirates are 69-48.
