Reds Turn Away Cardinals, 2-1
|
The Cincinnati Reds topped the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 2-1. Leading the way was designated hitter Chris Grunwald. Grunwald went 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 times for the Reds. Cincinnati starter Timmy John Aaron-Lee Frank Silveira was credited with the win after throwing 101 pitches over 6 innings. His record now stands at 12-7. Justin Ambrose earned his 2nd save in 3 chances.
Saulo Maina, who finished 4th in the NL in home runs with 39 in 2044, aided the Cincinnati cause with a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the second baseman did the little things right to help the team.
Maina attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
The Reds go to 56-69, putting them 4th in the National League Central Division.
