Pirates Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Reds, 10-7
|
The 10-7 Pittsburgh win over Cincinnati was due in large part to Nick Rooney. The Pirates first baseman went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Pittsburgh reliever Josh Ambrose picked up the win, upping his record to 2-4. Ryan Terlizzi was saddled with the loss. With the win, Pittsburgh pushed its record to 81-53.
Pittsburgh used the clutch hitting of David Contreras to capture the win. The third baseman drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Pirates ahead, 9-7. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Rooney said after the game.
