Thompson Leads Marlins to Win
|
With second baseman Matt Thompson leading the charge, the Miami Marlins defeated the New York Mets, 5-1, at Citi Field. Thompson was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 4 runs. Link Zeller got the win, improving to 11-12. He held the Mets to 1 run on 3 hits over 6.2 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 3. New York has now lost 4 in a row.
Miami used the clutch hitting of Jimmy Groseclose to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to give the Marlins the lead, 5-1. For the game, Groseclose had 2 singles and 1 double in 5 at-bats.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Marlins manager Mike Scott, "I like our chances."
