Dodgers Beat Padres, 4-1
|
The Los Angeles Dodgers got a stellar performance from pitcher Jon Harris, who handcuffed the San Diego offense en route to a win, 4-1, at Dodger Stadium. Harris, now 5-11, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Geoff Mooney recorded the save, his 22nd.
The Padres had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Dodgers going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 13-year veteran Joel Baker came to the plate. Baker hit a 2-run home run on a 1-0 changeup from San Diego hurler Unkei Wakamatsu. It was Baker's 23rd home run of the year.
"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Baker. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
Los Angeles bumps their record to 55-101 with the win.
