Nationals Down Phillies, 3-2
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Washington Nationals eventually prevailed.
Philadelphia got a terrific performance from pitcher Matt Evans, but it wasn't enough to beat the Washington Nationals. Washington won the Citizens Bank Park contest, 3-2. Evans threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. David Sly snagged the win in relief. In 3 innings, the right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits. He's now 3-10 on the season.
Washington needed the clutch hitting of Kyung-jin Cho to notch the win. The left fielder hammered a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Nationals on top, 3-2. For the game, Cho had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Every loss stings," said Philadelphia manager Paul Husch. "This one is no exception."
Washington is third in the National League East Division with a record of 73-86.
