Braves Roll to 8-1 Win Over Nationals
|
The Atlanta Braves got a strong performance from pitcher Scott Bernstein, who stymied the Washington offense en route to a win, 8-1, at Turner Field. In 8 innings, Bernstein surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Atlanta leads the National League East Division by 28½ games.
In the bottom of the fifth, Atlanta third baseman Dave Barefoot had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Barefoot stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 5-1, Atlanta. For the game, he was 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"We came out aggressive," said Braves manager Andres Wray II. "We came out swinging the bats."
