Despite a fine performance by third baseman Tom Butterbaugh, the Oakland Athletics lost to the California Angels, 12-10. Butterbaugh was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. California reliever Keith Pratt picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Charlie Shook shouldered the loss. The win gives the Angels a record of 9-6.

The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the 11th, with California trailing 10-8, Jonathon Walton hit a fastball from Charlie Shook for a grand slam home run, giving the Angels the walk-off win.

"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Walton.
