White Sox Clip Mariners, 4-3
|
The Chicago White Sox took Seattle pitcher William de Jesus's best shot and still were able to claim a win at U.S. Cellular Field. The final score had Chicago getting past the Mariners, 4-3. de Jesus went 5.2 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 9. The win was credited to Riso Profanter in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Victor Cervantes took the loss. The win was the 12th in 15 games this season for the White Sox. It's a terrific start for a team that appears on course for a return trip to the playoffs.
The game ended with a bang. In the bottom of the ninth, with Chicago trailing 3-2, Chris Cooper jumped on a 2-0 fastball from Victor Cervantes for a 2-run home run, sending the White Sox to a walk-off win.
Seattle manager Aaron Schiff said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
