The St. Louis Cardinals withstood an impressive performance by New York right fielder Sean Cook to defeat the Mets, 9-5, at Busch Stadium. Cook went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. The winner was Antonio Lacayo, who threw 108 pitches over 6 innings. The left-hander was charged with no runs on 6 hits. The save went to Danny Rivera, number 6 for him.
