Melendez Tags Baysox for 5 Hits Friday, July 16th , 2049 Alex Melendez was at the head of a Portland hit parade today at Prince George's Stadium. The catcher went to the plate 6 times and came away with 5 hits, sparking the Sea Dogs to a 19-2 victory over the Bowie Baysox. "I told the guys in the dugout, just be thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging Melendez told reporters after the game. "Seems like it worked out well for us today." Baysox skipper Cody Bellinger said later that the club gave up "too much plate." "Not the way we planned it," he said. "Every hitter in the league will rip you when you do that." Alex Melendez singled in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, hit a two-run triple in the 5th, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off Jason Turley in the 9th. This season Melendez is swinging the bat at a .281 rate with 63 hits in 224 at-bats. To date he has hit 6 home runs, scored 26 runs and driven in 27. |
