Big Day for Foronda: Swats 5 Hits Tuesday, August 31st , 2049 It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Laroya Foronda today -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at San Jose Municipal Stadium and paced the Giants to a 23-0 win over the Tennessee Smokies. After his dynamite batting performance, the San Jose right fielder told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book. Laroya Foronda singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Emir Jalil in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Roy Battist in the 6th and walked in the 8th. Posting a .281 batting average to date, Foronda has 12 home runs and 43 RBIs. |
