Suzuki Cracks 5 Hits Friday, May 21st , 2049 Even as a kid, Akira Suzuki said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Smokies Park today, Suzuki showed how well he learned that lesson. The 25-year-old second baseman had 5 hits in 7 at-bats for the Jacksonville Suns, helping his team knock off the Tennessee Smokies by a score of 23-0. "They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did today." Akira Suzuki singled in the 1st, hit a two-run triple in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, singled in the 5th, flied out in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 9th. This year Suzuki is batting .295 with 46 hits and no home runs. He has scored 30 times and has batted in 14 runs. |
