5-Hit Barrage by Rubio Friday, December 31st , 2049 Wilmington catcher David Rubio had a fantastic day at the plate at John Thurman Field today, knocking out 5 hits and pacing his club to a 15-0 victory. "It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Rubio said after his 5-for-5 performance against the Nuts. "No offense meant to Modesto, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid park, it was John Thurman Field." After the game, his manager elaborated on the catcher's improvements, saying Rubio spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball. "That's what I'm trying to do," Rubio said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it." David Rubio hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run triple in the 8th. For the season Rubio is batting .314 with 22 hits and 1 home run. He has scored 13 times and batted in 19. |
