Miske Big Deal in Fort Wayne: Hits for Cycle
Thursday, July 8th , 2049
Jim Miske of the Fort Wayne TinCaps touched all the bases today at Dow Diamond in the 11-3 victory over Great Lakes, hitting for the cycle.
He teed off on Loons pitching, collecting 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run. The feat is rare in baseball as it requires a game of no fewer than four hits and the unusual combination of a home run, which requires a batter to hit for some power -- and a triple, which requires a batter to have both speed and a favorable fall of the ball.
"The hardest part was the triple," Miske confessed after the game. "A lot has to go right. It's real easy to get greedy trying to stretch a double and get thrown out. It's really hard to get a three-bagger."
He finished the big day with 4 hits in 6 at-bats, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored -- and a place in the record books.
Jim Miske doubled in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, hit an RBI triple in the 4th, struck out in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Luis Diaz in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
In his stats this season, Miske has posted a batting average of .335 with 81 hits in 242 at-bats, 9 home runs and 37 RBIs. He has also scored 49 runs, walked 49 times and compiled a .451 OBP.
