AL Most Valuable Player Award Goes to Pierson Thursday, November 25th , 2049
When you have the type of year Gordie Pierson did, it's no surprise when you get named the recipient of the Most Valuable Player Award.
The 28-year-old captured the award for the American League today after a year in which the Lake County Captains pitcher excelled.
In 29 starts he piled up 202.2 innings, had 217 strikeouts with 38 walks and a 2.09 ERA. Pierson held opposing hitters to a .191 batting average and compiled a 5.4 WAR along the way.
He received 13 first place votes out of a possible 30. Israel Montoya of the Clinton LumberKings finished second in voting with 10 first place votes, while Jon Sosa of the Lansing Lugnuts finished third with 5 first place votes.
