Verhelst Fashions No-Hitter Against AquaSox
Thursday, July 22nd , 2049
The Connecticut Tigers relied on no-hit stuff from starter Neel Verhelst to defeat the Everett AquaSox 7-0 at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium today.
"It's quite a thrill," Verhelst told the media afterward. "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."
To get his name logged in the McNamara Division records, he stopped Everett cold and hitless, surrendering 1 walk and fanning 9 of the 28 batters he faced.
Connecticut manager Andy Garcia was in a jovial mode after the game, kidding with reporters that Verhelst "made managing easy today."
"I didn't have hardly any decisions to make like I usually do," he said. "I didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter."
In pitching stats this season Verhelst has rung up 6 wins and 6 losses in 20 games. He has an ERA of 2.97 and has fanned 85 batters in 106 innings.
