Spokane Indians Ace Named NYP Most Valuable Player Award Wednesday, November 24th , 2049
With stellar statistics and an uncanny ability to lead his team to victory, many around New York-Penn League felt Derek White was a shoo-in to be named most valuable player - except for the player himself.
"There's lots of great players in the league, I'm not so sure I deserve to be named among the best," he said.
But White has in fact been named the 2049 McNamara Division Most Valuable Player Award winner.
The Spokane Indians ace put up an impressive year, with a 19-3 record. In 29 starts he piled up 191.1 innings, had 242 strikeouts with 34 walks and a 2.16 ERA. White held opposing hitters to a .207 batting average and compiled a 8.1 WAR along the way.
