Degel Fires Shutout in Scrappers Victory
Friday, May 14th , 2049
Jeff Degel hurled a fine game for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at Eastwood Field today, holding the Aberdeen Ironbirds to 3 hits in a shutout win.
"When he started out, his command wasn't that good, but he's a tough guy," Mahoning Valley manager Odubel Herrera said. "The more pitches he throws, the better his command is."
The right-hander had 15 strikeouts and no walks in the 4-0 victory.
"An outstanding job," Aberdeen manager Phil Hall said. "We couldn't get anything going. Every time we got a hit, he got out of the jam. He pitched a terrific game."
Thus far this season Degel has posted a 6-2 record, started 8 games, struck out 67 batters in 48.1 innings and compiled a 3.17 ERA.
