Giants Prevail, as Wildcard Series Goes to the Wire Thursday, October 7th , 2049 The Wildcard Series went the distance before it all was said and done. The San Francisco Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks went at it tooth-and-nail and when it was over at Chase Field, the winner was the Giants. They put away Arizona 5-4 to cinch the series and won the right to move onto the Division Series. For his fine play, even in a losing effort, Arizona catcher Alec Thorpe was given the series Most Valuable Player Award. He hit .545, scored 5 runs and batted in 2 to win the honor. "It's nice that someone noticed my numbers, but I'd trade it in a heartbeat for a win," he said. The San Francisco Giants will play against the San Diego Padres in the next round.
