Round 1 Goes the Distance, Southern Maryland Prevails

It went the distance, but the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs finally disposed of the Detroit Red Wings 5-3 in the series clincher at Mike Ilitch Memorial Field.

Winning the finale gave the Blue Crabs the series, 4-3. They will now advance to the Quarter-Finals.

The Most Valuable Player Award went to Southern Maryland first baseman David Gomez. He batted .333 in the series, collecting 2 RBIs and scoring 3 runs.

"David deserves it," said Blue Crabs manager Seth Pascarella. "He was the glue that held our club together."

The Quarter-Finals matchups and schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
