Jon Solano of the Gwinnett isn't just a strong veteran presence in International League. He's also one of the league's top players.

At the age of 35, the second baseman has been named the recipient of the National League Most Valuable Player Award for 2050.

"At my age you sometimes think of possibly retiring, I'm sure glad I didn't," he said.


On the season, the Red Oak, Iowa native hit .320 and got on base at a .400 clip. He hit 18 home runs as well as 60 runs batted in and 66 runs scored.

He received 28 first place votes out of a possible 30. Jerry Luckwell Jr. of the Oklahoma City Dodgers finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Mick Tucker of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox finished third.
