Ruppel Bangs 3 HR Against Reading
Thursday, June 30th , 2050
Springfield Cardinals left fielder Travis Ruppel put on a dazzling display of power today at Hammons Field against the Reading Fightin Phils. In the 9-2 Cardinals victory Ruppel penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Reading manager Charles Marcel said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 25-year-old had 3 hits in 4 at-bats, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Ruppel said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
Travis Ruppel grounded out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Shamar Hansford in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Dale Turner in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off Dale Turner in the 7th.
Presently Ruppel is hitting .251 with 16 home runs and 36 RBIs. He has played in 74 games and scored 27 times.
