Kirkland on a Rampage, Hits for Cycle
Tuesday, September 6th , 2050
Joe Kirkland accomplished one of the rarer feats in baseball today when he hit for the cycle against the Columbia Fireflies in the 5-2 Reading Fightin Phils win at Spirit Communications Park.
Afterward, Kirkland acknowledged that his accomplishment was special, but said he was more interested in helping the Fightin Phils win.
"Maybe one day I'll look back on this with more meaning, but right now I just want to go out tomorrow and put some good swings on the ball and help my club win another game," Kirkland said.
On his historic day, he went 4-for-4 with 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored -- and also got a spot in the history books.
Joe Kirkland singled in the 1st, tripled in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Austin Kuhn in the 5th, was hit by a pitch in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.
So far this season Kirkland is batting .274 with 18 home runs.
