American League's Best Batter Announced Monday, September 19th , 2050 Frisco's Mike Thornton would not be denied the American League Player of the Week Award for this past week. His consistent stroke, which produced 10 hits in 23 at-bats and a .435 average, made him the clear favorite to win the honor. "You just go out there and do what you have to do," said Thornton, "When I'm up, I try to focus and block everything else out of my mind and have a good at-bat. I'm up there to get a hit or advance a runner, not to get caught up in the emotion of the moment. I hope I can win this award every week." He also tallied 3 home runs, 6 RBIs, and scored 5 runs. This season Thornton is swinging the bat at a .300 rate with 76 hits in 253 at-bats. To date he has hit 12 home runs, scored 46 runs and driven in 35. |
