Great Day for Teniente -- 5 Hits Monday, May 23rd , 2050 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Carlos Teniente, it came around today. The 23-year-old right fielder scattered hits all over Arthur W. Perdue Stadium to pace the Delmarva Shorebirds to a 7-2 victory over the Charleston RiverDogs. Charleston skipper Austin Hedges told reporters in the press room that "Teniente deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Teniente hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." Carlos Teniente singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 8th. Teniente has a .284 average and a .346 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 21 hits, no home runs and driven in 5 runs. |
