Super Swinger -- Casey Slams 5 Hits
Saturday, June 18th , 2050
A jubilant Mitchell Casey joined the postgame press conference at Appalachian Power Park today to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the West Virginia Power pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Peoria Chiefs right fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led the Chiefs to a 10-2 win.
"He made it look easy," said Cruz Gomez, manager of the Power. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Mitchell Casey hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Francisco Mendoza in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
This season Casey is swinging the bat at a .326 pace. He has hit 7 home runs and scored 21 times, while driving in 18. His on-base percentage is .429 and he has played in 30 games.
