Close Twirls No-Hitter Against Cubs
Saturday, September 10th , 2050
Is it better to be lucky or good?
After leading the Great Lakes Loons to victory, 6-0, and tossing a no-hitter over the South Bend Cubs, Chris Close didn't have the answer.
"I don't know," Close said. "To do what I did today, I'm pretty sure it takes both."
On his big day at Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium, Close fanned 15 and had 1 walk. And it seemed that when the Cubs managed to hit the ball hard, it went right at a defender.
"That's how you get a no-hitter," Close said with a smile. "A lot of skill mixed with a little luck."
To this point in the season, Close has rung up no saves in no relief appearances. He has also crafted a 2.88 ERA, 2 wins and 3 losses and 41 strikeouts in 34.1 innings.
