When you have the type of year Derek White did, it's no surprise when you get named the recipient of the Most Valuable Player Award.
The 29-year-old captured the award for the American League today after a year in which the Hickory Crawdads pitcher excelled.
In 31 starts he piled up 217 innings, had 263 strikeouts with 44 walks and a 1.29 ERA. White held opposing hitters to a .184 batting average and compiled a 8.3 WAR along the way.
