Stannard Goes Yard 3 Times Wednesday, July 27th , 2050 Players don't hit three home runs in a game very often and when they do, it is something to celebrate. After today, Carlton Stannard can celebrate. The Colorado Avalanche first baseman powered three into the stands at Denver Stadium today against the Tijuana Toros. "It's rare that you actually try to hit a home run," Stannard told reporters after the game. "Most of the time you fail, if you really try to hit one. But today, I was really trying on that last one." In all, he was 3-for-4 as the Avalanche toppled Tijuana by a score of 12-0, knocking in 6 runs and scoring 3 times. "He is blessed with a natural home run swing," Colorado manager Norman Veldwijk said. "He gets the ball up in the air." Carlton Stannard flied out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Rudolf Goldsmith in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Ricky Mendoza in the 4th and hit a two-run home run off Ricky Mendoza in the 6th. To date, Stannard has collected 102 hits for a .453 average. He has posted 50 home runs, scored 63 runs and driven in 85 runs. |
