Roth Goes Yard 3 Times
Sunday, August 21st , 2050
Winnipeg Goldeyes left fielder Ben Roth put on a dazzling display of power today at The Aquarium against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. In the 9-8 Goldeyes victory Roth penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Southern Maryland manager Seth Pascarella said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 22-year-old had 3 hits in 4 at-bats, 5 RBIs and 4 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Roth said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
Ben Roth hit a solo-shot off Tony Morales in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Tony Morales in the 3rd, was hit by a pitch in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Pierangelo Eccelino in the 6th and flied out in the 9th.
To date this season Roth is hitting .366 with 43 home runs.
