Carpenter and Hillard Suspended for Free-for-All Thursday, December 22nd , 2050 Yesterday at U.S. Bank Stadium Jeff Carpenter and Justin Hillard got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers and University of Alabama Crimson Tide. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Carpenter will have to sit out 3 while Hillard would be given a 6-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. In this current campaign Carpenter is hitting at a .229 clip with 2 home runs and 28 RBIs. |
