Akers Guns Downs 19 Marlins
|
Austin Akers of the Johnson City Cardinals put on a pitching clinic today at Howard Johnson Field as he struck out 19 Miami (APP) Marlins in a 23-0 victory. Akers, who is tied for 6th in the NL with a 5 wins, was simply magnificent as he held the Marlins to 2 hits. He walked 0.
"I felt okay at the beginning," Akers said, "but eventually my changeup really started working. I also have to thank my catcher for calling a great game."
When asked about Akers's performance, Cardinals manager Julio Rivero shook his head and said, "Yeah, he was good out there today. He was dominating."
This season Akers has registered 5 wins and 2 losses in 6 starts with a 4.74 ERA.
