The San Diego (APP) clubhouse staff referred to him as "the kid" this season. Next year Ryan Tatum will have to have a new nickname. He earned it after winning the 2044 National League Outstanding Pitcher Award.

Tatum made 32 starts this year, winning 15 and losing 1. He threw 173 innings, fanned 237, allowed 118 hits and 63 walks, while holding opposing teams to a .186 average as he logged an impressive 2.65 ERA.

He received 27 first place votes out of a possible 30. Ruben Arana of the Danville Braves finished second in voting with 3 first place votes, while Brian Wood of the Kingsport Mets finished third.
