A jubilant Tony Ponce joined the postgame press conference at Principal Park today to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Iowa Cubs pitching staff he had just vanquished.

"It may not have looked like it," said the Colorado Springs Sky Sox left fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."

That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-6 hitting performance, which led the Sky Sox to a 28-2 win.

"He made it look easy," said Lapaela Girawheen, manager of the Cubs. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."

Tony Ponce doubled in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, hit a two-run single in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, walked in a run in the 6th, singled in the 7th, walked in the 9th and hit a GRAND SLAM off Barend van der Kamp in the 9th.

Ponce is currently hitting at a .302 pace with 4 home runs and 18 RBIs.
