McDonald's Hit Streak Over
Friday, August 11th , 2045
Late in the game, all eyes in Raley Field were on Dana McDonald as he stepped into the batter box. His 20-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for McDonald, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end.
If there was a silver lining for McDonald today, it was that his Syracuse Chiefs won the game anyway, stopping the Sacramento River Cats by the score of 5-4.
"Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," McDonald told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 20 straight games. It's something I will always remember."
So far this season, McDonald has recorded a .324 batting average with 122 hits, 16 home runs, 70 RBIs, 67 runs scored and a .418 OBP.
