Injury Ends Season, Career for Staples
Tuesday, September 12th , 2045
The baseball career of Scott Staples is over. A spokesperson for the Pawtucket Red Sox clarified earlier comments about the 23-year-old starting pitcher. Staples, he said, will retire effective immediately as the result of a torn ulnar collateral ligament. Though he had spoken optimistically about playing again, Staples informed the team that he has decided to retire. It is a sad day for Pawtucket -- a sad day for those who had hoped that Staples would return.
To this point in the season Staples has 9 wins and 8 losses and a 3.57 ERA.
