20 Ks for Smith, Beats Lexington 9-0
|
Everything was working for Aidan Smith today at Ashford University Field. He had the perfect delivery. The ball was moving. The cutter was working.
In an unforgettable performance, the 20-year-old Smith fanned 20 Legends and sparked the Clinton LumberKings to a 9-0 victory over Lexington. He left Legends hitters mumbling and muttering at the plate. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it.
"I don't know if there are many times that I've seen him throw better," said Clinton manager Vance Cobb. "His location and command were really something."
In addition to collecting 20 strikeouts over 8.1 innings, Smith allowed 1 hit and 2 walks in a superlative outing.
"I thought I'd make it easy on the guys today," Smith said with a smile.
Smith has made 12 starts so far this year and put up a 5-4 won-lost record with a 3.18 ERA. In 68 innings he has allowed 53 hits, walked 27 and struck out 77.
