Edwards Spins No-Hitter
Tuesday, September 11th , 2046
South Bend Cubs starter Miles Edwards said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Edwards recalled.
The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The South Bend right-hander no-hit the Kane County Cougars 7-0 at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark, finishing with 0 walks and 14 strikeouts, facing only 27 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Edwards admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
In 20 starts this season Edwards has registered a 15-6 record and a 3.56 ERA.
