Twins Double Up Royals, 4-2
|
The Minnesota Twins topped the Kansas City Royals, 4-2, in American League action at Target Field. The standout performance belonged to Minnesota pitcher and Tytsjerksteradiel, The Netherlands, native Jack Overbeek. Overbeek got the win, improving to 1-4. He allowed 7 hits and walked 0 over 8 innings. Overbeek allowed 2 runs. Minnesota, with the win, sits at 11-22.
The Royals had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Twins going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old first baseman Miguel Diaz came to the plate. Diaz hit a 2-run home run on a 1-2 cutter from Kansas City hurler Brandon Ferrari. It was Diaz's 1st home run of the year.
"I thought we played a nice game," Overbeek told the Minnesota Gazette. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
