Pirates Sink Padres, 6-3

Good production from third baseman David Contreras helped the Pittsburgh Pirates topple the San Diego Padres, 6-3. Contreras was 2-3 with a triple and a walk, while adding 4 RBI for the Pirates. Isaac Spikes, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 7 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 6. His record now stands at 3-6. Earning his 9th save of the year was Jeremy Kennie.
With Pittsburgh trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Contreras hit a changeup from Troy Baker for a 2-run triple. It was his 1st triple of the season and put the Pirates ahead, 2-1.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Contreras told the Pittsburgh Daily News. "It's as simple as that."
San Diego has now lost 4 consecutive games.
