Orioles Come Up Short at Washington, 5-4
|
The Washington Nationals bested the Baltimore Orioles, 5-4, at Nationals Park. John Sanders was one of the standouts. He went 2-3 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. Washington pitcher Rafael Silva got the win. He's now 3-0. Jose Rico was tagged with the loss. Washington has now won 3 in a row.
Had Hisayuki Akiyama not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Akiyama hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Nationals.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Baltimore manager Mike Neugebauer.
